Jerusalem Day (Yom Yerushalayim) commemorates the reunification of Jerusalem in the aftermath of the June 1967 Six-Day War and the first time Jews control Jerusalem since the destruction of the Second Temple by the Romans in 70 AD. The day is officially marked by state ceremonies, memorial services, parades and additional prayers.

Pope Francis said farewell to Israel on Monday evening after a historic three-day visit to the Holy Land, leaving behind newly earned fans as well as politicians amazed at the unprecedented invitation he extended for a peace prayer summit in Rome.
